Guaymas CINEMEX Movie Theater

Cinemex, the movie theater in Guaymas, shows movies in Spanish and oftentimes in English.

This week, there are NO movies listed as playing in English. Avatar: Fire and Ash; Un Hombre por Semana; The Housemaid; The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants; Primate; Anaconda; Zootopia 2; Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Song Sung Blue are playing in Spanish.

Mariachi Revelacion at La Palapa Griega, January 14

On Wednesday, January 14, La Palapa Griega is hosting a night of Mexican culture with the popular mariachi group, Mariachi Revelacion.

The band will perform from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.

There is no cost to attend.

The regular menu will be available.

Open House Event, January 16

RE/MAX First Choice Realty, Seaside Realty, Coldwell Banker and Vive Real Estate will be hosting an Open House Event in San Carlos on Friday, January 16 from 11:00am – 3:00pm.

Teppanyaki Experience at La Catrina’s, January 16

Hermosillo Hot Air Balloon Festival, January 16 – 18

From Friday, January 16 to Sunday, January 18, Hermosillo will host its 4th annual Hot Air Balloon Festival.

There will be three days of family entertainment. The Balloon Festival will feature 20 anchored hot air balloons, a food court, children’s area and live music.

The Hot Air Balloon Festival is located at Expogan Sonora (map).

It starts at 5:00pm each day in the parking lot of Expogan and is free to attend.

There will be live music on Saturday, January 18 at 10:00pm by the Colombian group Piso 21. Piso 21 is known for merging Latin pop, reggaeton and urban music. They’ll have the crowd singing and dancing from beginning to end. The concert is free.

Other participating musicians include Rigos Band, Los Hijos de Frank, Cartas a Venus, Julio Ávila, Toque y Tono, and Los Apson, in addition to the 4th International Dance Festival and a nighttime drone show.

La Liga de Arte Show: Jan 17 – 18

La Liga de Arte will hold its Annual Art Show in the Tecalai Club House on Saturday, January 17 from 9:00am to 3:00pm and Sunday, January 18 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

There will also be a raffle of artwork donated by various artists.

Come to this annual event and meet and support the local artists and join them for refreshments.

Rescate Marketplace, January 17

Every Saturday, browse the goodies for sale at the Rescate-sponsored Marketplace in the parking lot next to the Thrift Store from 9:00am – 1:00pm.

Many vendors will be selling their wares at the Marketplace, including baked goods, fresh fruit and vegetables and handcrafted items.

There will be live music to entertain as you shop.

All vendors are welcome (artisans, cooks, crafters … no tianguis). Vendors should WhatsApp to reserve a space at 622-126-2112 or 505-236-8942.

Club Deportivo Filet Mignon Dinner, January 17

On Saturday, January 17, Club Deportivo invites the community to enjoy an entertaining evening with a delectable Filet Mignon dinner.

For dinner, dine on filet mignon, baked potato, green beans, garlic bread, a super salad bar and dessert.

The bar opens at 4:30pm and dinner is served at 5:30pm. Come early and enjoy delicious margaritas.

There will be live music by Jack Wheeler.

When you buy a Club Deportivo dinner ticket, you are helping to support most of the local charities, because Club Deportivo donates to many of them.

Cow Plop Bingo, January 18

On Sunday, January 18, join Rotary for the Cow Plop Bingo fundraiser for the Telesecundaria (Jr High School) in the Ranchitos starting at 11:00am.

All of the net proceeds will benefit the TeleSecundaria school in the Ranchitos.

To play cow plop bingo, purchase plot tickets for 50 pesos to win one of 3 prizes. You don’t need a ticket to attend but you do need a ticket to win one of the three plop prizes.

You can purchase tickets at Santa Rosa Market, Coldwell Banker, Colibrí’s, or from any Rotarian. Last year was a complete sell out and ticket sales have started out strong this year.

Come and enjoy food, drinks, music and fun, and you will have a great time supporting the children of San Carlos. You might want to bring a chair for your own seating. This is a fun event for all ages.

The Cow Plop is on the field beside the ball diamond in the Ranchitos. There will be signs on Calle 3 (go past Athleticclub San Carlos) which will take you straight to the event.

Karaoke Contest Registration Begins, January 20

We’re searching for the next San Carlos Idol!

Do you love singing? Do you dream of being on stage, in front of judges, audience and applause? Then this is your moment — join Colibrí’s Karaoke Contest 2026 to become the next San Carlos Idol!

Registrations opens on Tuesday, January 20. The knock-out rounds are on February 3, 10, and the finals are on February 24.

Live Entertainment with Kevin Terry, January 20

Come join your friends at the San Carlos Yacht Club on Tuesday, January 20 to enjoy local musician Kevin Terry. Kevin’s smooth guitar and wonderful vocals are a Yacht Club favorite.

The music starts around 5:30pm, but come early to meet friends, enjoy drinks & Arrachera, rice and beans. The Club & Bar open at 4:30pm, and the kitchen begins serving around 5:30pm. The cost for the Arrachera plate is 300 pesos for members and 350 pesos for non-members. The music starts around 6:00pm.

This event is Open to the Public and is a great opportunity to check out the club and meet members.

San Carlos Fishing Report

The yellowtail were biting after the full moon. The fishing was very good over the last few days. Lots of big yellowtail were close to shore. There were very few surface boils, but they are easy pickings on the troll.

The bite should be good for the next few days. We had some wind, but the seas are looking calmer. A few bonita were in the mix, even though the water is cool.

One surprise was a handful of yellowtail caught off the Posada beach. I’m sure they put up quite the fight! You never know.

San Carlos Birding Report

Hola Dear Birding Enthusiasts,

Nancy Norton was in charge of the group this past week as I was in the Yucatan on a birding trip. There were seven birders and the group went to Rancho Nacapule. This is a lovely area with a fresh water stream, a small but stunning cactus forest, and some of the prettiest hills in San Carlos.

The highlight was an American Robin, an uncommon visitor to San Carlos. There were views also of Verdin, Green-tailed Towhee, Ash-throated Flycatchers, and Northern Cardinals.

For lunch the group went to Little Cactus, a restaurant always popular with everyone.

The birding group will meet this coming Thursday, January 15 at 8:00am at the Mariscos Esterito Cafe located at the end of San Carlos Bay near the fish camp and across from the Red Cross station. I wish that I could bring some of the lovely birds we saw in the Yucatan but I’m sure we will do just fine with the beauties here in San Carlos.

You do not need to be an experienced birder to join our group. If you do not know anything except that you want to know more, our group will help you learn. If you are an experienced birder and just want to know other birders, then join us and share your knowledge. Please bring your water, sun and insect protection, and a chair. And your binoculars, of course. Outings last until around 11:00 and we go out to lunch afterwards. Clean Up San Carlos, January 17

Clean Up San Carlos! is a group of local volunteers who work together to beautify our surroundings.

This Saturday, January 17, the whole community is invited to help.

Volunteering is easy! Just meet a the designated spot and we give you bags, gloves and trash grabbers. It usually takes about an hour but you can come for any amount of time. It’s a great way to start the weekend!

We will meet at 8:00am at the entrance to Vista Real community (see red Pin on map). The construction in that area has left the road sides a mess.

Join us, outside, and help keep San Carlos beautiful! Everybody is welcome.

** Bags and gloves and safety vests will be provided. Don’t forget to bring your drinking water.
** We have a few Grabbers on hand, but please bring your own if you have one.
