Soggy Peso Weekend Celebration, July 4 – 7

We’re offering a Fish & Chip and Big A** Margarita lunch special between 1:00pm – 3:00pm from Friday, July 4 to Monday, July 7.

Celebrate some Family Fun time at the new Soggy and participate in the weekend-long RINGTOSS TOURNAMENT:

100 pesos gets you 20 throws. We will track all the players over the course of the weekend based on an honor system. The player to get the most hooks in 20 shots wins half the pot plus a pitcher of margaritas!

San Carlos Beerfest, July 5

Tickets are now on sale for the 4th Annual San Carlos Beerfest.

On Saturday, July 5, dozens of craft beers will be available to sample from 4:00pm to 1:00am at Marinaterra’s Club Duo.

There will be live music and food for sale and Bacanora tasting stands.

Tickets cost 400 pesos in advance and can be purchased at Hotel Marinaterra or online at marinaterra.com/tienda. The price at the door will be 450 pesos.

CRRIFS Summer Camp, July & August

Sign your kids up for this upcoming one week summer camp for ages 6 – 12 while spaces are still available.

The camp is bilingual and your kids will participate in science workshops, sports activities, arts & crafts and helping with the patients at The Wildlife Rescue Center. Meet our desert tortoises, river tortoises, our two red tail hawks and other recuperating wildlife.

Help CRRIFS with finding Turtle Tracks

Until CRRIFS volunteers begin a 7 day a week beach walk, we could use your help if you are out early walking the beaches. These are 2 pictures of turtle tracks. You will see a set of tracks going from the water and a set of tracks going to the water. Further up towards the dunes or houses there could be holes, or an area covered up. If you see this, please contact CRRIFS and we will come to the location. Only trained CRRIFS volunteers can attempt to find the nest.

The Olive Ridley turtles are having a hard time right now finding a good spot to lay their eggs. The picture on the far right shows 3 holes. There was no nest there as she attempted to lay but found the sand bottom too hard to dig down deep and she moved on. Also, in front of Pilar the sand is washed away and is clay. There are plenty of other spots, so hopefully the mammas will figure this out.

Occasionally, you may see a mamma turtle attempting to find a good spot to lay her eggs. It is amazing to watch but remember, stay way out of her way (preferably behind her), do not shine a white light on her, or attempt to get close and touch her. Please call us immediately and we will come out and assist. This picture was taken last fall in front of Club Duo where dog walkers called us early in the morning. She had been there all night and was tired and finally left without laying her eggs. It is exciting to be a part of this wonderful experience. Call or text us on What’s App at 622-152-9934.

Fishing Report

Things are warming up, but not necessarily the fishing. Happy Happy landed a nice bull Dorado not too far out, but not many other Dorado were caught, besides some small ones. I heard of one good marlin caught, along with a few sailfish. One tuna was found Tuesday, and supposedly a sardine boat netted over a thousand. We’ll see what the improving moon phase brings.

With the weather blowing at times there are some fish in close. A few Sierra and skipjack are around. A nice surprise was a good bite of large bonita the other day off San Antonio. A lot of snapper, triggerfish, and cabrilla are roaming the shorelines. I did catch my first corvina of the year from shore.

The snorkeling is excellent at times, seeing lobster, octopus, and some beautiful tropical fish. One red-footed boobie keeps finding us out there. We saw numerous turtles at times. Along with one purple/blue, orange, black and white damsel fish that I am still searching to identify. I saw my first pod of Pygmy Killer Whales. The mantas are jumping, and hopefully the sailfish again too.

Diving Report

Last weekend, divers found the artificial reefs, Santos, Suchiate and the two smaller wrecks teeming with life. Large schools of Latin and Cortez grunts were hanging out along the side corridors. A Spadefish (above left) passed by, probably going from wreck to wreck. Small Octopus were seen in several of the vertical railing holes along the edge of the Santos. Hiding inside the wrecks, Leopard grouper were waiting for a tasty meal to swim by.

The Santos is home to a wide variety of nudibranchs and last weekend they were plentiful. They have beautiful colors from bright white with orange dots to navy blue with orange and yellow spots to vibrant purple with orange cerata down their backs. Swimming crabs (above right) were also found in the crevasses.

Visibility was about 25 feet and the water temperature varied from 81 to 84 degrees. Perfect conditions. With summer in full swing, now is the time to grab your dive gear or just a mask and snorkel and book an adventure out on the water.

Just look for the building with the rooster murals on it, and you will have discovered La Zurda Beer Co., San Carlos’ newest and coolest gastropub.

At La Zurda, you will find a dozen or more craft beers — you must try our own Rooster Crow and Ezequiel. Oasis has a Sunset Cruise on Saturday evenings. Contact us for the departure time. This 2-hour cruise takes you along the bay of San Francisco beach, hitting the highlights for optimum picture taking and a beautiful sunset. The cost is 600 pesos per person.

Oasis has a Breakfast with Cruise on Sundays at 9:30am. This 2-hour cruise includes a selection of your favorites — hot cakes, omelets, chilaquiles, sweet rolls and fruit, with coffee, milk, orange juice, and mimosas. The cost is 650 pesos per person.

Live the adventure at the Kite Club, where you will find water activities for the whole family. What a great way for you to connect with the Sea of Cortez, considered the world’s aquarium.

Located on the beautiful soft sands of the popular Algodones beach, Kite Club’s activity center has something for everyone!

We can teach you how to Flyboard, Kitesurf, or Wakeboard, or just rent out equipment to you. At Kite Club we also rent out Jet Skis, single and double kayaks, and paddleboards. And we also offer boat rides. So now is THE time to get in and on the water! And while you are here, enjoy some delicious food and drinks from our Snack Bar. We are waiting to serve you today! Or just come and check out the kiteboarding show while sipping on a refreshing cocktail and enjoying our music at the beach.
