San Carlos Weather Forecast
It will be another hot and humid August week in San Carlos, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and daytime temperatures generally ranging from 34°C to 37°C (93°F to 99°F). Overnight temperatures will remain very warm at 29°C to 31°C (84°F to 88°F).
Humidity: Expect typically muggy August conditions. The current forecast shows humidity fluctuating roughly from the 50% range during the drier part of the afternoon to around 75 – 80% overnight and in the morning.
Wind: Winds should generally remain moderate, although afternoon breezes will be noticeable on several days. SailFlow currently forecasts peak sustained winds mostly around 6 – 14 mph (10 – 23 km/h), with the strongest period around Friday afternoon, when winds may reach about 14 mph (23 km/h) with gusts around 16 mph (26 km/h). Thunderstorms developing elsewhere in Sonora or over the Sea of Cortez can produce locally stronger and rapidly changing winds.
Waves: Conditions close to San Carlos look relatively calm for much of the week. SailFlow forecasts waves generally around 0.5 – 1.9 feet (0.2 – 0.6 m) Wednesday through Monday, with some of the smallest waves Thursday and Friday and somewhat higher waves Saturday. Current model guidance does not indicate a significant swell event for San Carlos during this period.
Rain and Monsoon Outlook: Weather Underground’s current Guaymas / San Carlos forecast shows near-zero to very low precipitation probabilities for most of Wednesday through Tuesday. However, the broader regional forecast deserves attention. CONAGUA/SMN reports that the Mexican monsoon, atmospheric instability and a mid-level cyclonic circulation are producing strong to very strong rains in parts of Sonora, potentially accompanied by lightning and strong wind gusts.
This means San Carlos may remain dry even while significant thunderstorms occur elsewhere in Sonora. As is common with summer monsoon weather, a thunderstorm that develops near the mountains or Sea of Cortez can also change local conditions quickly.
The National Hurricane Center is watching two tropical waves with potential for development later this week and over the weekend.
Of greater relevance to Mexico, an area of low pressure is forecast to form several hundred nautical miles south of southern Mexico toward the end of the week. The NHC says gradual development is likely thereafter and a tropical depression is expected to form this weekend while moving west-northwestward. Importantly for San Carlos, the system is currently forecast to remain well offshore of Mexico.
A second tropical wave farther west in the Pacific also has an opportunity to develop toward the end of the week or over the weekend as it moves generally westward toward the central Pacific.
For the Sea of Cortez, the NHC reports that fresh to strong southeasterly winds associated with thunderstorms have recently been occurring in portions of the area. Its marine analysis places seas generally at 1 – 3 feet. There is currently no tropical cyclone forecast to directly affect San Carlos, but the developing system south of Mexico and continuing monsoon activity should be monitored during the week.

Future Events in San Carlos
Tuka Sawa Festival de Parrilla y Bacanora, October 3
The 4th Annual Tuka Sawa Festival de Parrilla y Bacanora returns to San Carlos on Saturday, October 3. The popular barbecue and Bacanora festival will be held at Sawari Hotel starting at 2:30pm, with many participating restaurants, live entertainment and family activities.
Dozens of restaurants will serve their signature grilled specialties and regional dishes, with more than 40 different tastings available. The festival will also feature some of Sonora’s best-known Bacanora brands. Bacanora is a traditional agave spirit produced in Sonora and is one of the state’s signature regional products.
Tickets: 500 pesos through August 31; 700 pesos beginning September 1. Admission includes unlimited food tastings from participating restaurants, including regional dishes such as mango habanero ribs, rib eye aguachile, pork belly, lamb burgers, chicken and more. Tickets are available at Hotel Sawari or by WhatsApp at 52-644-114-0357. This event SOLD OUT last year, so pick up your tickets early.
Drinks are available for purchase separately, including Bacanora, craft and commercial beer, cocktails and soft drinks.
There will be live entertainment throughout the day, starting at 3:00pm with Mark Mulligan followed by more music including The Dudes and other special bands. The festival is family-friendly, with games and activities for children.

Diving Report
This past weekend, Isla San Pedro Nolasco was continuing to have great visibility and warm water temperatures. The sites visited by a group of divers from Tucson encountered 80+ feet of visibility and almost 90 degree water. They did have some cooler thermoclines pass through. The sea lions were very playful, one even grabbing one of the diver’s ponytail. Locally, the water was about the same temperature, but the visibility at Isla Venado and the artificial reef system (the wrecks) was only about 30 feet.
With that kind of low visibility, it is time to go slow and look closely at the substrate to see what is lurking. What better place than the X Santos wreck, the first boat sunk. It has accumulated quite a wide variety of organisms living on it. A favorite of divers are the nudibranchs. They are in the mollusk family, but somewhere along their evolutionary path they lost their hard shells. Most of them eat other invertebrates that pass along a foul taste. Therefore nudibranchs can mosey along the reef displaying their very brilliant colors, shunning potential predators. They are easily spotted and make a nice subject for underwater photographers due to their slow pace.
Some of the more frequently seen nudibranchs are (left top to bottom) Dall’s, Sedna, Marcus, (right top to bottom) Mexican Dancer, Agassizi, California nudibranchs. These are just a few…there are many more. Book your trip now to the artificial reef system, the X Santos in particular, and see how many of these beautiful creatures you can find.

CRRIFS: Meet our Newest Turtle Volunteers
While we have many new volunteers this summer, Olivia and Ridley are our new drones. Very generous volunteers donated enough money for us to purchase two. While volunteers still walk most of the beaches, they now retrieve nests when the drones spot tracks. With a drone, we can zoom in better and see the whole beach. From a higher viewpoint, we can distinguish between tracks of a turtle and that of all the ATVs.
At the beginning of August there was a night of high tide at 4.5 feet. The next morning, Olivia and her handlers noticed a nest bed on San Francisco Beach. There were no tracks due to the tide line. This is something that might be hard to notice by a volunteer walking the beach, as they normally look for two sets of tracks near the water line.
With three volunteers and a staff member probing the area, a nest was not located. Hopefully, the mamma turtle has returned and laid her eggs nearby. We are starting to find more nests and will announce shortly the start of our very popular Nest Adoption fundraiser. Nests should start hatching early to mid-September.

Fishing & Cruising with No Le Hace
The boat No Le Hace is a comfortable, 53 foot yacht is air-conditioned and has a restroom. It leaves from the Iguana Dock (right in front of Marvida Taproom & Kitchen) at Marina San Carlos.
There’s enough room for 30 passengers so come with your family and friends to explore the Sea of Cortez and experience the beautiful San Carlos shoreline, playful dolphins, and the best sunsets in the world. We are also set up for your next fishing trip. Ask us for details.

Kite Club
Live the adventure at the Kite Club, where you will find water activities for the whole family. What a great way for you to connect with the Sea of Cortez, considered the world’s aquarium.
Located on the beautiful soft sands of the popular Algodones beach, Kite Club’s activity center has something for everyone!
We can teach you how to Flyboard, Kitesurf, or Wakeboard, or just rent out equipment to you. At Kite Club we also rent out Jet Skis, single and double kayaks, and paddleboards. And we also offer boat rides. So now is THE time to get in and on the water! And while you are here, enjoy some delicious food and drinks from our Snack Bar. We are waiting to serve you today! Or just come and check out the kiteboarding show while sipping on a refreshing cocktail and enjoying our music at the beach.
Specials: With a minimum consumption of 650 pesos, your 100 pesos entrance fee will be reimbursed by the restaurant.
