San Carlos Weather Forecast
Mid-July will continue with typical San Carlos summer conditions, featuring hot afternoons, warm and humid nights, and mostly sunny skies. A gradual increase in moisture through the second half of the week may bring a better chance of isolated thunderstorms, mainly from Friday through Sunday, before drier and sunnier conditions return early next week.
Daytime highs will generally range from 33 – 36° C (92 – 97°F), with the hottest conditions expected Wednesday and Thursday. Overnight lows will remain warm, mostly between 29 – 30° C (84 – 86°F). Rain chances will stay low early in the period, then increase late Friday into the weekend as tropical moisture moves northward and isolated thunderstorms become possible.
Humidity will remain elevated, especially overnight and during the early morning hours, producing warm and muggy conditions. Afternoon humidity will decrease somewhat with daytime heating, but moisture levels will remain high enough to make temperatures feel several degrees warmer than the actual readings.
Winds will generally be from the south to southeast at 10 – 20 km/h (6 – 12 mph), with occasional stronger afternoon breezes near the coast. The strongest winds are expected during the afternoon hours as the land-sea temperature difference enhances the local sea breeze. Winds should ease slightly during the weekend as humidity and cloud cover increase.
For boaters and beachgoers, morning conditions should remain the most favorable, with lighter winds and calmer seas early in the day. Afternoon sea breezes may produce moderate chop in exposed waters, particularly from Wednesday through Friday. By the weekend, locally higher waves and brief periods of reduced visibility may occur near thunderstorms.
According to the National Hurricane Center, there are currently no tropical cyclones expected to directly affect the Sonora coast during this forecast period. The Eastern Pacific remains active, and a disturbance is being monitored well offshore of southwestern Mexico, but current projections keep any potential development away from San Carlos with no expected direct impacts. .
As always during hurricane season, you should continue monitoring official forecasts for updates. And keep an eye on the weather at our San Carlos Weather page with satellite images and live weather feeds.

Fishing & Diving Reports
Fishing Report
Much like the England vs. Mexico match, it was a week of heartbreaks. After catching a couple good Dorado Thursday and seeing a few other nice fish in the reports, I followed through on dragging my son out fishing. I enjoyed winning trophies as a child in the annual Zaragosa tournaments. I figured that the Kids Tournament looked like ‘easy money’. After a slow start due to overloading the fuel on my friend’s boat, we made it to the hot area. We found some seaweed patches and caught a baby wahoo. After landing a large Striped Marlin, I saw the biggest patch. I missed a couple on the popper and then tossed a live bait. Fisher battled the spirited fish for twenty minutes. He was tiring and I leadered the fish on the light line, but as it made a last minute run in the big waves, I looked back to see the line wrapped on the tip. It would have probably only placed third for us to break-even, but it was a disappointment to me. I don’t know if it will carry bitterness with him for a lifetime like the one I lost at the boat at his age to win, but it’s a memory. At least we finally had a day fishing together.
Lots of sailfish filled the stretches throughout the week. We found a couple small Dorado in closer, along with some of the billfish. Another marlin that we had was also about 180 pounds. We didn’t have four fish sailfish days like Thursday, but one or two a day. Our highlight was a 28 pound Dorado caught on a popper on light gear.
We were looking pretty light on another fish. I was in the tower when the Elephant Gun went off. The 100 pound crackled off the 50 Tiagra and slowed as the fish circled. Then the largest marlin that I’ve seen here jumped at the boat in the wake. I furiously took out the slack, but it kept coming. As my heart regained composure, thirty seconds later the fish returned. It checked out Boy George (a green, yellow, and pink Moldcraft Long-range) again for twenty seconds, faded to the large purple on the other corner, I restrained from dropping back a bait, and it then proceeded to tickle and drop the pink skirted Islander on the other side twice before losing curiosity. I think that we would have been battling into the sunset. It was an easy 400 pounds+. Hopefully I’ll get another chance in this lifetime.
We had mostly comfortable mornings into the afternoons all week. Lots of dolphin and turtles were out there. We released one turtle trapped in some line. Shorelines were quiet, and only a few skipjack and Sierras. A few sharks are out there. There are still some fish around!

Diving Report

We has another great weekend of diving, both locally and at Isla San Pedro Nolasco. Water temperatures at the island last Friday and Saturday were between 81 – 83 degrees at North Point and Lighthouse. Visibility was an amazing 70+ feet. There were sightings of green and jeweled moray eels, a green sea turtle, very playful sea lions and a crown-of-thorns seastar feasting on corals. A couple juvenile species were seen, the King angelfish and Pacific highhats (pictured above).
The very young highhats (pictured on left) seem at first not to be very well camouflaged with its bold yellow color and black bars and stripes. But, it does blend in well with the surrounding colors of the reef and stays tucked into cracks and crevices. The adult (right) on the other hand changes into a dull grayish brown color. It also stays well hidden often in large groups under rocks and ledges.
Sunday’s local dives were at the submerged reef off of Piedras Pintas with a temperature of 84 degrees and about 35 feet of visibility. The highlight of this dive was a small black Pacific seahorse. A seahorse can have variable colors that match its surroundings (seaweed, rocks or corals). Colors can be various shades of red, yellow, tan, brown, grey, black, or green.
There is lots of good diving and snorkeling right now in San Carlos. Book a trip and see what you can find. Don’t forget to slow down, take a flashlight and look under rocks or in crevices to see what’s hiding.

Tortuga’s Restaurant & Bar
In the heart of San Carlos – where the Sea of Cortez paints some of the most breathtaking sunsets in Mexico and every day feels like a getaway – you’ll find a place that has become part of the very essence of this destination: Tortuga’s Restaurant & Bistro.
More than just a restaurant, Tortuga’s is where great food, unforgettable moments, and genuine hospitality come together to create an experience guests remember long after the last drink is poured.
For over a decade, we have perfected every detail to offer a dining experience worthy of San Carlos itself: warm, authentic, and unforgettable. From our breakfasts featuring freshly baked artisan bread, rich coffee, and our famous Eggs Benedict, to evenings filled with International Bistro cuisine, premium steaks, fresh catch of the day, handcrafted pasta made in-house, and carefully crafted cocktails.
Every dish tells a story of fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and a true passion for great cuisine. Our Rib Eye, Prime Rib, Peppercorn Filet Mignon, Chili-Crusted Tuna, Catch of the Day, and our now-famous homemade pasta are just a few of the specialties that have made Tortuga’s a favorite among both locals and visitors.
And because every exceptional meal deserves an exceptional setting, we invite you to enjoy what many call the best terrace in San Carlos – featuring live music every day, a relaxed atmosphere, and that unmistakable feeling of freedom that only life by the sea can offer.
Whether you’re joining us for a peaceful breakfast, a special lunch, a romantic dinner, cocktails at sunset, or a private celebration, Tortuga’s is always a place where you’ll find memorable flavors, warm service, and an experience worth returning for.
