San Carlos Weather Outlook for the Week

San Carlos is looking at a predominantly sunny, hot and humid week, with little measurable rain currently forecast locally. Weather Underground shows daytime highs ranging from 33 – 37°C (91 – 99°F) and overnight lows of 28 – 29°C (82 – 84°F). Wednesday will be the coolest day at around 33°C (91°F), with temperatures climbing Thursday and peaking Friday at approximately 37°C (99°F) before settling back to 34 – 35°C (93–95°F) for the weekend and early next week.

Humidity will remain high overnight and in the mornings, generally reaching around 75 – 85%, but should fall considerably during the hotter afternoon periods. Thursday and Friday look particularly dry during the afternoon, with humidity potentially dropping to around 45 – 50%. Despite the lower afternoon humidity, the heat will still feel intense. AccuWeather’s separate apparent-temperature forecast is considerably hotter than Weather Underground’s actual-temperature forecast, with RealFeel values reaching approximately 45 – 48°C (113 – 119°F) Wednesday through Saturday. Friday currently has the highest RealFeel at around 48°C (119°F).

Weather Underground currently forecasts 0 mm of measurable rain for every day from Wednesday through Tuesday. There is some precipitation potential around Wednesday, but the local forecast becomes very dry Thursday through Saturday before showing somewhat higher precipitation probabilities again Sunday through Tuesday. At this time of year, there is always the possibility of an isolated shower or thunderstorm if monsoon moisture develops locally.

Winds should generally range from about 6 – 15 mph (10 – 24 km/h). Wednesday morning currently looks like the windiest period, with winds around 15 mph and gusts to 22 mph (35 km/h). Friday afternoon could also become breezy, with winds around 14 mph and gusts to approximately 19 mph (31 km/h). Otherwise, winds should generally remain light to moderate.

Marine conditions improve considerably after a somewhat choppier start Wednesday. SailFlow forecasts waves around 3.2 ft (1.0 m) Wednesday morning, easing to about 1.9 ft (0.6 m) that afternoon. Thursday through Monday, waves should generally range from about 0.6 – 2.1 ft (0.2 – 0.6 m), with some day-to-day variation but no significant build currently indicated.

The Eastern Pacific remains active, but there is no direct tropical-cyclone threat to San Carlos at this time. Tropical Depression Norbert is far to the west near 140°W and is expected to weaken into a remnant low. Tropical Depression Fifteen-E is also well west-southwest of Baja California. The National Hurricane Center is additionally watching for a new low that could form well south of southwestern Mexico late this week; it currently has a low 20% chance of developing during the next seven days as it moves west-northwestward to northwestward.

As always during hurricane season, continue monitoring official forecasts for updates, and keep an eye on the weather at our San Carlos Weather page with satellite images and live weather feeds.

FotoSeptiembre, ongoing

FotoSeptiembre 2026 is now underway, with Guaymas participating in the 32nd Festival de la Imagen en Sonora, the state’s annual celebration of photography and visual arts.

The Guaymas exhibition by the Colectivo Fotógrafos de Guaymas opened September 4 at the Casa de la Cultura “Edmundo Valadés,” in the Galería Rosalba Salas de Vizcaíno, Avenida Serdán #355, Calle 14 in Centro Guaymas. The exhibition showcases the work of local photographers and is part of the statewide FotoSeptiembre program.

This year’s festival explores the theme “Naturalezas no humanas” (Non-human Natures), examining our relationships with landscapes, ecosystems, other living beings and the environments we share. Individual exhibitions participating in FotoSeptiembre do not necessarily have to follow the annual theme — the official 2026 call specifically allowed both related and unrelated exhibitions.

Across Sonora, this year’s festival features 67 free activities, including 40 exhibitions, presented in 11 municipalities. The program also includes workshops, talks and video-art presentations, bringing together photographers and visual artists from Sonora, elsewhere in Mexico and abroad.

The statewide FotoSeptiembre program continues through October 17. The Guaymas exhibition can be seen at Casa de la Cultura “Edmundo Valadés.”

Hammer Down Fishing Tournament, October 9 – 11

The Hammer Down Fishing Tournament returns to San Carlos from October 9 – 11, continuing a local fishing tradition that began nearly 43 years ago when San Carlos fishing legend Bill Hammer created the original Labor Day Tournament. Now renamed in his honor, the tournament also raises money for local charities.

Registration and a no-host cocktail party will be held at the San Carlos Yacht Club on Friday, October 9 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The $250 USD per angler entry fee includes Friday night’s hamburger and fries, an Awards dinner ticket, swag bag, tournament shirt and cap. Anglers can also enter optional cash jackpots.

Fishing takes place Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am to 3:00pm, with boats departing from Marina San Carlos or Marina Real. Competition includes marlin, sailfish, dorado, yellowfin tuna and wahoo. Billfish are strictly catch-and-release, while qualifying dorado, tuna and wahoo must weigh at least 15 pounds.

There’s a particularly big incentive for the overall winning team: Hammer Down is an Offshore World Championship qualifying event. The winners receive an invitation to compete at the World Championship in Quepos, Costa Rica, plus $15,000 USD toward travel expenses.

The weekend concludes with the Awards Dinner at the San Carlos Yacht Club on Sunday at 6:00pm. Fifteen percent of the optional jackpot proceeds goes directly to local charities.

For more information and online registration, visit San Carlos Fishing Tournaments or call 622-120-7869.

Fishing Report

I apologize to all my loyal readers for being gone so long! While reception was decent in places like above Platoro, CO at 9,700′, it was not below Flaming Gorge dam on the Green River. I roamed from the fabulous upper Conejos, to Steamboat and below Fontanelle on the Green to spots on down. I think that my highlight was a 10# cuttbow on the 3wt. Mother-in-law rapids on the Green nearly took us out, but we escaped. Now just to survive expenses and the heat until things cool off here in San Carlos.

Reports were very few over the summer, and mostly of skipjack. A sailfish caught was usually the top report. I did hear of several sailfish caught this week, along with a couple of Dorado from one boat 15 out. I don’t think that many boats have been going out or venturing too far. Summer can be long and slow. My hat’s off to anyone who stuck it out here!

There have been reports of yellowtail and snapper caught deep on the Reef, mainly by the pangueros. They are fishing 500+’, using squid and live bait. Shorelines contain a lot of small mixed bait at the moment. The corvina have sounded pretty absent. I did hook some snapper, ladyfish, croaker, and skipjack on the fly rod from shore. There is some pretty good life starting up.

The water is still hovering up to 90 degrees. A surprise little storm popped up on Monday that whipped up some significant seas. I would keep a close eye on the weather! The forecast at the end of the month is sometimes showing a storm predicted, and we could definitely see an active October. I don’t think that anyone really knows what to expect. I’ll have to say the same for the fishing, so keep your fingers crossed!
